Time flies when you love your home

Today marks the one month anniversary of the official move-in day.  At this time last month I was thanking all of my strong friends for their help with the furniture and returning the UHaul after the 5 mile round trip.  To celebrate, I thought I would show you some pictures from the move.  My mom took the photos and just recently sent them to me to download...enjoy.

Apparently, you cannot use the flash when you photograph a UHaul truck.
A big thank you to these guys and gals (and a few others who didn't make the photo)

They were the best of times; they were the worst of times

It has been a busy two weeks in this house.  I decided to have my first get-together with some of the friends who have been helping me out through this entire process.  I picked out a date that didn't conflict with anyone's schedule, I planned out the perfect menu to mix nicely with wine and beer and I counted down the days until I could fit a group of friends in my house without being smashed into one little room. I did not, however, plan on the sink becoming so clogged that it would require an entire week without a kitchen sink and a 2-hour visit from a recommended plumber.  Needless to say, this hostess was up for the challenge of preparing for a handful of guests without the ability to use the sink (and I think I passed with flying colors).  It is funny though, by the end of the night everyone ended up smashed in one room just like we would have been if we were in my old apartment.  It must have been the warmth of the fire (ha ha ha - see below to understand this joke). At least this time I knew that if we didn't like each other so much, we could have spread out.
I tried my best to remove the clog myself, but after a few days of yelling, swearing and being covered in disgusting sink sludge, I decided it was best to call for backup.
Preparing for the party required a few sink basins and a number of trips to the basement sink.
In the end, everything was ready and all of the dirty dishes were hidden in the basement :)

It was too warm for a real fire, but the fake logs and crazy orange revolving light set the mood for the evening.

Thanks for coming everyone!
The new faucet.

The new garbage disposal and pipes.  There was a great deal of sawing, soldering and a little bit of yelling from the plumber, but in the end he was able to clear the clog and patch everything back up again.

Hoist the white flag

I surrender!  This clog has defeated me and I intend to call a plumber tomorrow.  While he is fixing the clog (or whatever is wrong with this stupid sink) I am going to see if he can install a garbage disposal and a new faucet.  If I am going to have to pay him for an hour's work (or maybe more) I might as well get my monies worth.

One step at a time...

That's how I got my dining room table in place.  Once again, I have to thank a few people for helping me get things in place (Nicole and Mike - you are the best).  Now...I just have to figure out how to fix my kitchen sink before I have my first guests over on Saturday!

It started with two chairs (the other four weren't in yet)

The table made it into the basement, but I wasn't strong enough to get it up the stairs.

Finally, everything is in place, with two extra tables to add when the leaf is in place.
Final photo of the day - my home away from home!
